Al St. John is in Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle's two-reelers second supporting player, next to Buster Keaton. It often has something touching, such as between the playful childish egomaniac Fatty and Buster the elegant this grossly appears in clown make-up boobies pants. Still very close to the fair is this character, every gesture seems hopelessly attracted, St. John has a little mechanical, Vorsubjektives. Shorted motion picture interconnections, where at Fatty and especially Buster Keaton already uses self-reflection. Sometimes it seems cruel, as the films deal with Al St. John. In The Cook he breaks one of the most self-dramatization Fatty and Buster (not mere reactions to given situations, but fantsamatische Productions of more or less from scratch), he does riot and is then chased by a dog through the city, while the other two eat spaghetti. The obviously well trained dog in this film pays homage to the chase almost more attention than the persecuted, who, after he escaped, one-, two jumps in the air and disappears without a trace.
Of the approximately 100 B-Western, in which St. John the "fuzzy" plays, I have, I believe, has not seen one. Only its predecessor (?) Fuzzy Knight, I discovered in some early Hathaway movies.
