Should gifted are taught in separate schools or classes? That depends on the student, says the Center for Gifted (ÖZBF). But also on the residence of the student, for their own schools or classes for gifted traits exist only in Vienna, Mödling and now in Wels. Gifted education in Austria is not uniformly applied. In Salzburg, there is a contact person at each school, in the other provinces as teachers and parents at least in each province, a coordinator of gifted education available.
Individual schools offer some more activities: Olympiads, competitions, project work. is in regular classes, but done little to promote, criticized the ÖZBF. Exercises must be "regularly and systematically" take place in order to access. And above all, should not be simply giftedness moored on IQ. For the "old" definition of giftedness that is simply a higher IQ than 130, rejects the ÖZBF. "Between the values 120 and 130 hardly noticed a difference," says Claudia Resch.
